TAMPA (Oct. 17, 2015)—The USF women’s tennis team kicked off the first day of the 2015 Bedford Cup, with two players advancing to the quarterfinals of the singles competition.
Junior Vera Bessonova and freshman Nicole Dzenga each won two matches in their respective brackets to move to the quarterfinals. Bessonova topped Breana Stampfli of FGCU, 7-5, 2-6, 6-4, before defeating Quetzali Vazquez of UNF, 7-5, 6-2. Dzenga defeated Hannah Fluhrer of UNF, 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 (2) and Monica Matias of UCF, 7-6 (2), 6-4, to move on in the competition.
Olga Martinez, Vanja Klaric and Juliana Cardosa split their results on the day, winning in the round of 32 before falling in the round of 16.
