Woman sentenced to 25 years for murder of multimillionaire Fort Lauderdale boyfriend

A Fort Lauderdale woman convicted of murder in the shooting death of her multimillionaire boyfriend was sentenced this week to a 25-year prison term.

Catherine Pileggi, 58, was tried and convicted last November for the June 2011 murder of Ronald Vinci, 70, a California businessman who retired to South Florida in 2005. Vinci and Pileggi had been together for 18 years.

On the stand during her trial, Pileggi described their relationship as abusive, culminating with violence and death threats on the night she shot him.
