Woman convicted in sex extortion case asks judge for mercy

The woman convicted of extorting a Boca Raton doctor by threatening to reveal their illicit tryst to his wife and children has written a six-page letter to the judge in her case, pleading with him not to send her to prison and insisting she has learned her lesson.

Debbie O'Flaherty-Lewis, 49, was found guilty on May 7 of one count of extortion. She is in custody at the Paul Rein detention facility in Pompano Beach awaiting sentencing, originally scheduled for Friday.
