Paychecks are rising in South Florida, but we're still falling farther behind.
Average wages in Broward, Palm Beach and Miami-Dade counties were up by $832 in May 2014 compared with the year before, or 1.9 percent, according to the latest estimates by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
That was better than the national average of 1.7 percent from the same period. But the average annual pay in South Florida lagged the national average by 7 percent — $43,950 versus $47,230, the BLS said.
South Florida's higher pay also failed to keep up with inflation, which was running 2.
