Highly successful Akron coach Keith Dambrot, Lebron James' high school coach in a previous life, has emerged as a strong candidate for the vacancy at USF, several sources have told the Tampa Bay Times.
Dambrot, 58, has led the Zips to 13 consecutive 20-win seasons. The only other Division I coaches who currently own such a streak are Mike Krzyzewski, Roy Williams, Mark Few, Dave Rose, Rick Pitino and Bill Self.
The Zips fell to Kent State in Saturday night's MAC Tournament final. It was Akron's ninth title game appearance under Dambrot in the last 11 seasons.
