GREENVILLE, N.C. (May 5, 2024) – The University of South Florida Bulls (23-24, 9-12 AAC) battled the No. 5-ranked ECU Pirates (37-9, 16-5 AAC) for 16 innings on Sunday afternoon and came away with a doubleheader split. ECU outlasted South Florida in the opener, 8-5, before the Bulls held off the Pirates in the finale, 5-4.
South Florida snapped ECU's 10-game winning streak and handed the Pirates just their third home loss of the season. The Bulls notched their first win against a Top 5 opponent since defeating No. 5 Florida on February 19, 2019.
Saturday's contest in the three-game weekend series was postponed due to widespread illness which affected a majority of the USF roster and Sunday's doubleheader endured a four hour and seven minute rain delay between games one and two.
