A tractor-trailer that flipped on the Sawgrass Expressway north of Sunrise Boulevard has left much of the roadway closed with emergency workers and first-responders on the scene.
The crash, on the northbound side of the roadway, was initially reported shortly before 10:45 a.m.
The cause of the crash wasn't immediately known, but it left the 18-wheeler flipped on its side. For a time, the trailer portion of the rig was on fire – sending dark plumes of smoke over western Broward.
Northbound traffic on the Sawgrass (State Road 869) is being diverted at Sunrise Boulevard. Southbound traffic is halting and has been stopped at times for emergency workers.
