Trial starts for woman accused of extortion, threatening to expose affair

It was supposed to be a secret. That was the point of using the adultery-enabling website AshleyMadison.com, a Boca Raton doctor testified Tuesday.

But after he told Debbie O'Flaherty-Lewis that there would be no repeat performance of their sexual encounter, the doctor said, she threatened to expose his infidelity to his wife and family – unless he paid off her $7,000 credit card bill.

O'Flaherty-Lewis, 48, faces 15 years in prison if convicted of extortion. Her trial began Tuesday before Broward Circuit Judge John Patrick Contini.

The alleged victim's family still doesn't know what happened.
