Stampede alert: Several Bulls could go in MLB draft

USF Athletics

Odds are, a handful of USF underclassmen who helped the Bulls baseball program make history this season likely won't attempt to repeat it.

No fewer than four third-year players -- junior ace Jimmy Herget, junior C Levi Borders and redshirt sophomore closer Tommy Peterson -- are expected to be selected in this week's Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, beginning Monday at 6 p.m. At least one senior, SS Kyle Teaf, also could be picked.

So too, could at least two Bulls signees.

Naples OF Garrett Zech and Cape Coral 6-foot-2 LHP Shane McClanahan could be the first players with USF ties to be taken.
