A small contingent of deputies will be outfitted with body cameras by year's end, Sheriff Scott Israel said this week.
The Broward Sheriff's Office plans a pilot program in which 25 body cameras will be placed on deputies who train new recruits. The cameras are expected to be provided to the agency at no cost by a yet-to-be-selected vendor, said Capt. Jonathan Appel, who will be in charge of the program. The county would pay for staffing to handle the videos.
"This community wants body cameras,'' Israel said at a County Commission budget workshop Tuesday.
