Rainy season: Wetter than normal at first, then drier

Expect the rainy season, which began earlier than usual this year, to be warmer and slightly drier overall than normal, the National Weather Service said Tuesday.

However, late May through early July should be wetter than normal and could be roughed up by severe weather, as strong thunderstorms, lightning, hail and gusty winds tend to form in the first part of the season.

July through August should be drier than normal while September and October could see anything from a tropical system to cool, dry conditions, meteorologist Robert Molleda said.

"The end of the rainy season is the hardest part to predict," he said.
