Racing drivers sought after I-595 crash kills Davie woman, 18

A Ford Mustang drag racing with another sports car may have caused a fatal roadside accident on Interstate 595 late Wednesday night that closed a portion of the highway for nearly five hours, Florida Highway Patrol officials said.

Julie Michele Castor, 18, of Davie, died at the scene, Sgt. Mark Wysocky said.

The deadly collision was triggered about 11:53 p.m. on westbound I-595 just east of University Drive when two sports cars that appeared to be "racing in and out of traffic" possibly changed lanes in front of Castor's 2006 Toyota Corolla, causing her to lose control and crash, witnesses told troopers.
