Presidential candidates court Hispanic voters

Hispanic voters already are playing a major role in the 2016 presidential race, a sign of their growing importance in Florida and other key states.

Hillary Clinton, the Democratic front-runner, is bracing for a fierce competition for Hispanic votes, knowing her eventual Republican opponent may be former Gov. Jeb Bush or Sen. Marco Rubio, fluent Spanish speakers from Florida, who fared well with Hispanics in past statewide elections.

Clinton's strong endorsement of a path to citizenship for millions who live in the U.S. illegally has consolidated her support from reform-minded Hispanics at the risk of alienating other voters alarmed by waves of illegal immigration.
