TAMPA, JUNE 5, 2017 – The University of South Florida baseball team's sophomore lefty Andrew Perez has been named a 2017 Gregg Olson Award semifinalist, as announced Monday.
Perez (Orlando) slipped into the closer role at the beginning of the season and was one of USF's top options out of the bullpen. The hard-throwing lefthander went 6-3 on the year with a 2.72 ERA in 27 appearances. He recorded a team-high six saves and struck out 52 batters in 39.2 innings while allowing an opponent batting average of .185.
One of 25 semifinalists, Perez is the only member from the American Athletic Conference and only member from a program in the state of Florida.
