The odds – not to mention sand and water – were stacked deep against the reunion of Michael Sonsogno and his wedding ring after it dropped into the ocean from Anglins Fishing Pier in January.
Two divers he enlisted that week after the plunge couldn't find it. And the 1,500 miles between here and his hometown in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, certainly made the prospect of recovery slimmer.
But then came an array of unlikely events Saturday that put the wedding band on its way back.
Sonsogno, 30, said he still couldn't get his mind around how the picture that lit up his cell phone Saturday morning was undoubtedly the two-tone gold band that had been on his finger for four years.
