An award-winning debate coach at Nova High School in Davie has stepped down and is under a police investigation over allegations of financial misconduct, the school district confirmed this week.
Lisa Miller, 58, who has received national honors as the leader of Nova's prestigious 250-student debate program, has submitted her paperwork to retire, Broward School District spokeswoman Tracy Clark said.
"There is an investigation through our schools police, and it's regarding possible misappropriation of funds," Clark said, declining to elaborate on the exact allegations.
Miller, whose salary was $73,550, is a Nova High alumna and has taught debate at the school since 1986.
