Merrell finished the year leading the Bulls in a number of offensive categories, including average (.346), runs (45), hits (83) and stolen bases (21). The Odessa, Fla. native ranked second on the team in on-base percentage (.403) and started all 60 games he played in this season.
Nationally, Merrell ranks 11th with sixteen sacrifice bunts, and led the team with 24 bunt singles on the season.
This is the first Freshmen All-American honor for a Bull since Jimmy Herget picked up a pair of honors in 2013.
