A Fort Lauderdale man is accused of throwing his girlfriend overboard while boating on the New River and then pushing her underwater with a pole until bystanders intervened.
Jean-Paul Pienaar, 36, knew his girlfriend could not swim when he tossed her into the river before 9 p.m. Sunday, Fort Lauderdale police said.
Witnesses noticed the commotion and yelled at Pienaar to stop, so he pulled her back into the boat, according to the arrest report filed in the case.
When police arrived, the woman told officers she had been living with Pienaar for the past four to five months in the 300 block of Southwest 12th Court, the report stated.
