Man accused of beheading girlfriend told police he didn't know where she was

A week after his girlfriend disappeared without a trace, Paul Edwards sat down with Miramar police detectives who wanted to know if he could help them find her.

"If there was any suspicion around you, you haven't dispelled it," said Detective Steven Toyota in a recording played for a Broward jury at Edwards' murder trial Monday. "Nothing personal. I'm just being honest."

Edwards insists he was being honest, too, when he told the detectives on Oct. 14, 2009, that he didn't know where Spence was.

Spence was last seen Oct. 7, 2009, at her job at a beauty supply shop, which was walking distance from the Miramar home she shared with Edwards.
