Killer gets 30 years in prison for 1986 crime

For 29 long years, the man who killed Angela Savage, a mother of two, got away with murder.

Judgment day did not come swiftly for Gary Troutman, but when it did, it carried a 30-year sentence.

On Thursday, eight years and 14 days after his arrest, Broward Circuit Judge Ilona Holmes imposed the prison term after Troutman pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the 1986 case.

"This is what I've been waiting on: justice," said the victim's mother, Josephine Adams of Deerfield Beach. "And justice has been served."

During sentencing, Savage's brother, Wayne Adams, told the judge his sister had planned to marry the father of her young son, but never got the chance.
