The Duchess of Cambridge had a baby girl Saturday morning in London, Buckingham Palace announced.
Prince William, 32, was present for the birth. The baby weighed 8 pounds 3 ounces, the palace said, adding that Kate, 33, and her child were both doing well.
Later in the day, the royal couple stepped out the door of the hospital with the duchess carrying her newborn, wrapped in white. They waved briefly to the crowds gathered outside before leaving in an escorted car driven by William.
The world's media had been stationed outside the hospital behind barriers awaiting news of the birth.
