Herget, Peterson sign pro deals

USF's baseball team now officially is in the market for a new Friday night starter and closer.

Redshirt sophomore reliever Tommy Peterson, drafted in the 12th round by the Washington Nationals early last week, confirmed Monday via Twitter that he has signed with the club. Three days earlier, junior right-handed ace Jimmy Herget announced he has signed with the Reds, who drafted him in the sixth round.

Herget has reported to the Reds' rookie-league affiliate in Billings, Mont. Peterson's immediate destination is unclear.

USF's two other 2015 draftees, RHP Casey Mulholland (Dodgers, 37th round) and SS Kyle Teaf (Rays, 30th) were seniors.
