Heat affects kids at Cooper City church's summer camp

At least five children became ill with heat-related symptoms at a Cooper City church on Wednesday, a Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue official said.

The kids are summer campers, ages 8 to 11, who were participating in a field day at Potential Church, at 12401 Stirling Rd., Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue spokesman Mike Jachles said in his Twitter feed.

Two of the sick children were taken to Memorial Hospital in Pembroke Pines.

About 150 other kids were brought inside to cool off in air conditioning, Jachles said.

The temperature in the Cooper City/Pembroke Pines area was 91 degrees with 57 percent humidity at 11:30 a.
