A night on the water in a small boat turned tragic for a group of teenagers when their boat crashed into a bridge, killing one person and leaving five others hurt, three of them critically.
"They unfortunately hit the bridge that is located on the south fork of the Middle River," said Amanda Phillips, a spokeswoman for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
The crash happened about midnight in the waters that run through a quiet residential neighborhood along North Dixie Highway near Northeast 18th Court in Fort Lauderdale.
Phillips said the teens had initially set out about 10:30 p.
