Four children injured when waterspout lifts bounce house on Fort Lauderdale Beach

Four children were injured — one seriously — on Monday when a waterspout spun ashore and lifted a bounce house that was set up near the basketball court on Fort Lauderdale Beach, authorities said.

All four children were taken to Broward Health Medical Center about 12:30 p.m., said Deputy Chief Timothy Heiser of Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue.

In a video shot by a beachgoer, the waterspout is seen heading ashore as a fine spray of water. Once ashore, lifeguards are heard blowing their whistles, and people begin to scatter.

Seconds later, the bounce house is lifted at least 20 feet into the air and seems to tumble and overturn before coming down about 150 feet away in the parking lot.
