Father of dead baby may face manslaughter charge

Broward prosecutors have dropped criminal charges against the mother of a 5-month-old Hallandale Beach baby who was last seen in July 2011 and are considering charging the baby's father with manslaughter.

Brittney Sierra, 23, and Calvin Melvin, 29, were scheduled to go on trial together on May 6. Sierra faced child neglect charges, and Melvin faced multiple counts of lying to law enforcement officers about the child's whereabouts.

But Hallandale Police filed a complaint affidavit on April 16 accusing Melvin, 29, of killing his son, Dontrell, sometime around July 4, 2011 and burying the boy's body in the backyard of the home where they lived on the 100 block of Northwest First Ave.
