The new charges filed against the former president of the Broward Teachers Union deal with allegations he misappropriated about $300 a month, for several years, from the School District's accountability program, federal prosecutors said.
Pat Santeramo, 67, of Sewall's Point, appeared briefly Monday afternoon in federal court in Fort Lauderdale to hear the allegations against him.
Dressed in a blue dress shirt and dark pants, Santeramo was handcuffed to a chain around his waist and shackled.
He spoke only briefly in court, telling U.S. Magistrate Judge Lurana Snow that he understood the terms of his release on $50,000 bond.
