An award-winning New York City police officer is facing at least 10 years in federal prison when he is sentenced Friday afternoon for providing armed security for a $200,000 cocaine deal in Sunrise that turned out to be a law enforcement sting.
Phillip Leroy, 28, of Queens, pleaded guilty earlier this year to being part of a federal drug-trafficking conspiracy. He also admitted bringing his loaded off-duty gun along when he and his friend went to a Sunrise warehouse to pick up 22 pounds of cocaine.
Leroy, jailed since his Dec. 1 arrest, resigned from his job shortly before his guilty plea in March.
