Dolphins coach Joe Philbin didn't like what he saw from his reserves in Thursday night's 27-10 loss to the Chicago Bears. The backups were outscored 24-0 in the second half of the preseason opener, didn't produce a turnover, had numerous penalties, lost a fumble and threw three interceptions.
It raises questions about the quality of the depth on the Dolphins' roster, and whether the backups could be trusted to do the job if certain starters are injured.
"The [second- and third-team players] have to be better," Philbin said.
As has happened throughout training camp, things got sloppy when the Dolphins' starters left the field and turned things over to the reserves.
