A day after 15 Easter Island-style statues were crushed by a scuttled barge in a botched try to create an underwater sculpture garden, organizers on Monday decided to sink even more time and money into the project.
Loath to give up on what was to be the Rapa Nui Reef, artist Dennis MacDonald and backers who came up with $500,000 to fund what was to be a briny art installation and dive site said they plan to raise more money to add intact sculptures to what is now a pile of wreckage.
"I don't know where funds will come from, but have faith we will be able to pull it together," said MacDonald, 63, of Pompano Beach.
