Crash victim's father: Guilty verdict not the end of ex-BSO deputy's vehicular manslaughter case

Duane Catlin knows it's not over.

His daughter's killer was found guilty of vehicular manslaughter and faces a maximum 15-year sentence — one year longer than Cara Catlin lived.

"There's still an appeals process," he said, standing at the front door of his modest single-family home in Oakland Park. "And there's still sentencing. I don't want to do or say anything that will affect the process."

Former Broward Sheriff's Deputy Franklyn McCurrie, 27, will be sentenced by Broward Circuit Judge Dennis Bailey on June 18. Catlin and other members of the victim's family will have the opportunity to address the judge before sentencing.
