More than three days after two 14-year-old boys disappeared on what for them was a routine offshore fishing trip, Coast Guard officials offered hope Monday that the boys could be found alive.
"People can survive in the water. It's relatively warm," said Coast Guard Capt. Mark Fedor, chief of response for the Coast Guard 7th District in Miami. "But it's a dangerous environment, and there is only so long you can survive in the water."
Fedor's estimate of how long? "Four to five days in these conditions."
Best friends Austin Stephanos and Perry Cohen were last seen Friday morning when they motored out of Jupiter Inlet in a 19-foot center console boat that was recovered at 11 a.
