A boil-water notice that has caused hassles across much of eastern Broward County will last at least through Tuesday afternoon, according to the city of Fort Lauderdale.
The Florida Department of Health has ordered additional tests, and these results won't come back until then, said Matt Little, spokesman for the city. Until the order is lifted, thousands of residents will be forced to boil water for at least a minute before using it to brush teeth, cook or make coffee.
A routine test detected E. coli bacteria in water prior to treatment. After the result was confirmed Saturday, boil-water notices were issued for Fort Lauderdale, Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Oakland Park, Port Everglades, Sea Ranch Lakes, Wilton Manors and all of Davie and Tamarac east of State Road 7.
