For the second straight year, and third time in 11 years, USF is returning to the Birmingham Bowl. This time, to face Texas Tech.
USF capped off an 11-2 season in 2016 with a thrilling 46-39 overtime win over South Carolina at Legion Field. In 2006, USF defeated East Carolina 24-7 in Birmingham at the PapaJohns.com Bowl. Both games drew over 31,000 fans.
Texas Tech, under head coach Kliff Kingsbury, finished this year at 6-6, 2-4 in the Big 12. The Red Raiders are making their first trip to the Birmingham Bowl.
The Bulls would clinch back-to-back double-digit win seasons with a victory over the Red Raiders.
