USF has announced the hiring of Bob Butehorn, former head coach of Florida Gulf Coast University, as the new head men’s soccer coach.
Butehorn is a former midfielder for the University of Tampa Spartans, helping lead the Spartans to a Division II national title in 1981. He has coached at Maryland (Assistant), St. Bonaventure, UPenn (assistant) and most recently at FGCU, where has served at head coach since 2007.
At FGCU, Coach Butehorn went 86–59–21, winning six straight regular season championships from 2010-2015, and winning the conference tournament in 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2016. His teams made the NCAA tournament in all four of those seasons, and reached the second round this past season with a shootout win over USF.
