A Fourth of July boating accident in Fort Lauderdale has left a 17-year-old boy in critical condition, fire and rescue officials said.
A boat on the Intracoastal Waterway crashed into a wall near Bayview Drive in the north end of the city, said Timothy Heiser, Fort Lauderdale deputy fire chief. The teen was taken to Broward Health Medical Center, Heiser said.
The agency's fireboat 49 and the police department's nautical units assisted land crews in rescuing the boy, Heiser said. He did not know the number of people on the boat or what caused the accident. He also did not know whether the boy was operating the vessel.
