Bill Arnsparger, defensive coordinator during Dolphins title years, dies at 88

Bill Arnsparger, who was brought to the Dolphins by Don Shula in 1970 and became the architect of Miami's championship-winning 'No-Name Defense', died Friday at 88, according to the Dolphins website.

Arnsparger, after departing the Dolphins after the NFL-title-winning 1973 season to be the New York Giants coach, returned to Miami in 1977 after an awful stint in New Jersey where his teams went 7-28 over two and a half seasons before his dismissal.

Three times under Arnsparger, the Dolphins' defense allowed the fewest points in the NFL (1972, 1973 and 1983).

After the 1983 season, LSU pried Arnsparger from the Dolphins for good with an offer to be their coach.
