The American Athletic Conference's board of directors unanimously voted Friday to accept men's basketball power Wichita State as a member for men's and women's basketball and Olympic sports effective July 1.
The vote was conducted Friday during a mid-morning conference call. Wichita State currently doesn't have football.
"(Wichita State) has an exceptionally strong tradition of success in men’s basketball and baseball," AAC commissioner Mike Aresco said in a statement released by the conference.
"The addition of Wichita State in basketball and Olympic sports extends our conference’s national footprint, enhances our national profile, and strengthens our position as a leader in intercollegiate athletics.
