Heading to the beach this holiday weekend?
While the restoration of a storm-ravaged section A1A is in the home stretch, expect slow-going -- even though work will be suspended for the holiday and resume Monday. And don't expect to find any beachside parking in the construction zone.
Construction on a mile-long stretch from Sunrise Boulevard to Northeast 18th Street is expected to be finished by the end of the year, although state officials have not announced an exact date.
When completed, there will be bike lanes in each direction, a wave wall, a beachfront promenade on the east side of the road, paver sidewalks on the west side, decorative pedestrian lights and signalized crosswalks at Birch State Park, Northeast 15th Court and Northeast 17th Street.
