Four people climbed out of a small, beat up, makeshift sailboat that came ashore along Hallandale Beach early Tuesday and told a young man who witnessed their arrival that they were from Cuba.
The four told Dimitri Deytrodonets that they had been at sea for seven days and asked him to call authorities for them.
The boat was strewn with some water bottles, styrofoam plates and other meager supplies and had a crude, wooden rudder.
Representatives from U.S. Customs and Border Protection eventually arrived at the scene. It's believed the four people from the small boat were taken for a medical evaluation before being further processed by federal authorities.
