South Florida head coach Charlie Strong has been linked to several Power 5 head coaching vacancies this offseason, specifically at Florida and now at Florida State now that Jimbo Fisher has left for Texas A&M.
However, that doesn't mean he's looking to go anywhere else. A current USF starter told Chat Sports that Strong met with the team and told them that he "isn't going anywhere" and plans to stay with the Bulls.
Strong has a tremendous history of success recruiting in the state of Florida, which is why the Gators and Seminoles were both interested in him. Those ties also played a major role in why USF hired him after his tenure at Texas.
This year, Strong had the Bulls as a top 20 team before finishing the season with a 9-2 record. He signed a five-year, $9.8 million deal with the Bulls last December.
After 27 years as an assistant coach, Strong went 37-15 in four years as Louisville's head coach, during which he landed a lot of top recruits in the state of Florida (namely Teddy Bridgewater). That pipeline he created helped lay the foundation for the Cardinals to land Lamar Jackson.
His tenure at Texas (16-21) didn't go as planned, but he still reeled in top 20 recruiting classes every year - including two top 10 classes. Strong has a 62-39 career coaching record.
