COLUMBIA — Jerry Sharp remembers exactly where he was standing: behind the fence, on the first-base side of the high school baseball field. He remembers the fly ball headed toward short left, the shortstop backpedaling out, the left-fielder charging in. He remembers a collision — and hearing Will Muschamp scream.
“You could take a two-by-four and hit Will with it, and he wouldn’t budge,” said Sharp, the former head football coach at Darlington School in Rome, Ga. “But when he hollered, I knew he was hurt.”
