COLUMBIA — It’s impracticable to drive from South Carolina to Lexington, Ky. At least, that’s the case in the NCAA’s world.
South Carolina advanced to the Sweet 16 of the women’s NCAA Tournament on Sunday with a 73-47 victory over Kansas State, putting the top-seeded Gamecocks through to a regional site in Sioux Falls, S.D. That hardly seems like a reward for a team the NCAA selection committee ranked as the No. 2 national seed behind unbeaten reigning national champion Connecticut.
The Huskies are bound for a regional in Bridgeport, Conn., 78 miles from their campus in Storrs.
