Coming into 2017, the Gamecocks planned on relying on Rico Dowdle, A.J. Turner and Ty’Son Williams, the first two having shared the role in 2016 and the latter a transfer from North Carolina. But the pieces never really fell into place.
Dowdle was banged up from the outset, was never really effective (until the bowl) and missed the second half of the regular season with a leg injury.
Williams saw his workload fluctuate wildly, going from zero carries to 14 to zero in his first three weeks, and saw a two-game stretch with three carries late in the year.
