COLUMBIA — A rendering of South Carolina’s proposed $50 million football operations center may adorn the inside back cover of the Gamecocks’ 2016 media guide, but the facility still needs several layers of approvals before USC can put the first shovel in the ground.
Athletic director Ray Tanner said Thursday that the second phase of the approval process is due to begin in September, with an eye toward a potential groundbreaking late this year or early in 2017. But he’s taking nothing for granted.
“We’re optimistic that it could happen, but there are no guarantees,” he said.
