COLUMBIA — The South Carolina women’s basketball team was picked to win a third consecutive SEC championship, and guard Tiffany Mitchell was picked to claim a third straight conference Player of the Year award in preseason media voting released Tuesday.
The Gamecocks, who last season won a program-best 34 games and made their first trip to the Final Four, earned 265 points in the voting, 17 more than second-place Tennessee. Gamecocks forwards A’ja Wilson and Alaina Coastes also received votes in Player of the Year balloting, giving USC three of the six members on the preseason All-SEC team.
