There’s an obscure statistic that through two games of South Carolina’s football season is not getting much attention outside the building, but almost certainly is a point of pride within it.
The Gamecocks have allowed only seven points in the fourth quarter this season, that on a touchdown by N.C. State with 12:21 left in the fourth quarter of the season opener.
For starters, that’s a big improvement for a team that gave up 77 points in the fourth quarter last year. Particularly this week, it’s a big deal. During Kentucky’s three-game winning streak against South Carolina, the Wildcats have outscored the Gamecocks 30-16 in the fourth quarter.
