New South Carolina quarterbacks coach Dan Werner worked his first practice with the Gamecocks on Wednesday, but offensive coordinator Bryan McClendon already feels a solid comfort level with his new colleague.
“We both kind of learned offensive football from the old school, I-formation and both had to grow from there,” McClendon said. “Our evolution has been really, really similar. We can kind of relate to how things originated for my ideas and his ideas.”
Werner, formerly the offensive coordinator at Ole Miss, most recently was an offensive analyst at Alabama. He was hired in January to replace quarterbacks coach Kurt Roper, who was fired following the regular season.
