COLUMBIA — Impermissible text messages or other forms of electronic communication led to many of the secondary violations South Carolina has reported to the NCAA over the past year.
USC reported 22 secondary violations to the NCAA between Aug. 1, 2015 and Aug. 1, 2016, according to information provided to The Post and Courier through the Freedom of Information Act. All but one were classified as Level III, which according to the NCAA are violations that are isolated or limited in nature.
Ten of the violations stemmed from issues using text messages, email, or social media, including three by the women’s basketball program in which an assistant coach sent an impermissible text message to a recruit with the same or similar first name to a current or another prospective player.
