COLUMBIA — It was an evening that encapsulated everything South Carolina women’s basketball has become: a raucous crowd, a blowout result, and a fitting sendoff as the Gamecocks leave their home arena to continue their quest to return to the Final Four.
Tiffany Mitchell scored 20 points, and top-seeded South Carolina routed ninth-seeded Kansas State 73-47 at Colonial Life Arena on Sunday in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Gamecocks advance to the regionals, where they will face No. 4 seed Syracuse on Friday in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Third-ranked South Carolina (33-1) won its 60th straight home game over an unranked opponent, dating back to an overtime loss to Vanderbilt in 2011.
